What Is an Apostille?

An apostille is an official certification that verifies the authenticity of a public document, such as a birth certificate, diploma, or power of attorney. It is used for international purposes when documents need to be recognized in countries that are part of the Hague Apostille Convention.

The Convention allows countries to accept documents with this certification without requiring further legalization through embassies or consulates—streamlining the process for international document use.

Alternative Dispute Resolution

Alternative Dispute Resolution

Alternative Dispute Resolution

The Horton Initiative offers professional mediation services as a neutral third party, helping you resolve disputes effectively and respectfully. With specialized training through the Supreme Court of Ohio, we facilitate discussions across various types of mediation to assist parties in reaching mutually agreeable solutions—many of which can be presented in court, if desired.

Areas of Mediation Expertise:

  • Child Custody Agreements

  • Shared Parenting Plans

  • Prenuptial Agreements

  • Divorce Decree Settlements

  • Annulment Agreements

  • Supervised Visitation (in public locations)

What Is a Third-Party Neutral?

A third-party neutral is an impartial individual—such as a mediator—who facilitates constructive dialogue and guides disputing parties toward resolution, without taking sides or imposing outcomes.

Benefits of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Mediation:

  • Empowers each party to express their perspective.

  • Keeps discussions focused on key issues.

  • Encourages timely, mutually beneficial agreements.

  • Provides a signed and notarized agreement that may be presented in court.

  • Preserves control over the outcome, avoiding reliance on judicial rulings.

Restrictions for ADR Mediation Services:

We are unable to provide ADR mediation services in the following circumstances:

  • A history of domestic violence, sexual assault, or child endangerment.

  • Any felony conviction.

  • Residency outside the state of Ohio.

Scheduling & Fees:

  • Session Fee: $50.00 per party, per session (45 minutes)

  • Minimum Requirement: Two sessions

  • Retainer: A non-refundable ADR retainer of $50.00 ($25.00 per party) is due 48 hours prior to your first appointment.

  • Confidentiality: A signed confidentiality agreement is required at the time of service.
